It has been a while since I have posted on here. I wanted take a moment to give an update from the JNEA side of things. I had an opportunity to visit with Dr. Ridder on Monday, January 18th to get an update from him and ask a few questions.
Visit from Dr. Ridder to each building- So far Dr. Ridder has visited 7 building sites. He enjoys visiting with staff and watching the growth into the next direction of our district. The presentation has given the teachers a way to express what they think needs to improve, and what we can celebrate. He will be finished visiting all schools in the first week of February. We should see the model classroom information very soon.
Staff Survey- After much discussion in September about giving a teacher satisfaction survey, Dr. Ridder and Mark Maness decided not to give one then and focus on one on one data. Now is the time to ask the teaching staff what their opinion is on the current status of Joplin Schools. Be prepared to take a TOTALLY ANONYMOUS staff satisfaction survey. I hope that all 600 teachers take the time to make their voice heard. You will receive an email in February with the external site information.
SLOs- Yes, I have had the talk with both Jennifer Doshier, Jason Cravens, and now Dr. Ridder. After hearing concerns from members I talked to all three. Here is the long and short of it. Elementary- You will pick a prep, pre test, teach, post test to see student growth. Middle and High School- You will pick a prep, pick a class (your choice), pretest, teach, post test to see student growth. This is all in the teacher’s hands, you choose the prep, the test, and secondary the class.
Behavior- Dr. Ridder spoke to the Board of Education last week. He presented the same information he is giving to the teachers at each building. One point he brought up pertained to student skills and behavior. Dr. Ridder’s team is working on identifying what skills each grade level should have to progress to the next grade level.
Bargaining- JNEA Negotiation Team will be sending out a statement in the next week or so giving our teachers an idea of where we are in the process.
Questions, comments, ideas- Let us know! Next member meeting Feb. 9th 4pm at First Baptist Church 7th and Pearl.
Keep being awesome!!!!
